Pampshade - Nann Clock
This whimsical timepiece reimagines how we experience time through an unconventional lens. Crafted from authentic baked naan bread, each clock features a loosely formed design that tells time in an intentionally approximate way—no precise dial, just gentle guidance. The concept draws inspiration from "Ima Nanji," a Japanese phrase meaning "What time is it?"—inviting you to embrace a more relaxed relationship with temporal awareness. Because each naan is individually baked, every clock possesses unique texture and character, making it a functional art piece that celebrates imperfection and mindfulness. Perfect for those seeking to slow down and appreciate time's passage without rigid precision.
Backstory
It was inspired by Salvador Dali's masterpiece, "The Clinging of Memory," aka "The Soft Clock. He describes the image of the past time fading and dissolving in memory as a "soft clock."
The contradiction created by making the clock, a measure of time, ambiguous, raises questions about the busy days when we are so busy that we are pressed for time. I hope you will laugh at the result, though I have tried to make it sound complicated!
